The tour starts from the Futae Pass overlooking the Aso Caldera and the majestic active volcano, Mt Aso. The road we will walk is the old Bungo Kaido, which has a history of over 400 years and used to connect Kumamoto (Higo Province) with Tokyo (Edo). The road passes through the grasslands of the northern outer rim of the caldera, where stone pavement still remains.
